Financial Accounting

Our role is to deliver continuous improvement in the quality of financial reporting and forecasting with an ambition to be 'best in class'.

The team produce the financial statements, returns and information that the University is obliged by statute to prepare, in order to preserve MMU's status as a University and remain eligible for grant funding that supports ongoing operations.

Key outputs include:

  • Annual Financial Statements for the University
  • Financial elements of the annual Higher Education Statistics Agency (HESA) return, used by the Higher Education Funding Council for England (HEFCE) to inform the level of grant funding awarded to the University
  • Input to the annual Higher Education-Business and Community Interaction survey (HE-BCI) return, which informs the strategic direction of 'knowledge exchange' activity that funding bodies and higher education institutions (HEIs) in the UK undertake
  • Ensuring ongoing compliance against external standards and statutory reporting requirements
  • The five year forecast for the University, which informs top-level decision making and strategy development
