Refunds

Refunding tuition fees, Manchester Met accommodation fees, met card and other associated fees

Refund

To request a refund, please send an email to refund@mmu.ac.uk.

The email must include your name, Manchester Met student ID number, and the reason for requesting the refund. 

Owing to administration and other costs, the University will only process a refund for amounts over £15.

The Regulations for the Payment of University Fees explains how fees are adjusted if a student leaves their course which may result in a refund.

The University will only process a claim for a refund when all other debts owed by the recipient to the University have been cleared.

How long will it take to receive my refund?  

All refund requests are subject to further investigation, and the Refunds team may contact you for further details or documentation. Once the Refunds team has received all relevant information, they will aim to process your refund within 14 days.   

Refunds are processed on a weekly basis. Once your refund has been processed, how quickly you receive it will depend on the method of refund payment. Certain payment methods are quicker than others, so as a general guide, once we have processed your refund, you can expect to receive it:

  • Within 5 working days by credit/debit card
  • Within 2-3 working days by UK bank transfer (BACS)
  • Within 2-6 weeks by international bank transfer

How will my refund be paid?

The University will process refunds back to the person who made the original payment, and via the same method of payment. So, for example, if you request a refund of fees that were originally paid by credit card, the refund will be processed back to the same card. 

If you paid by credit/debit card, you do not need to provide any card details.

If you made the original payment in cash, by cheque, or by UK bank transfer, please provide the account number and sort code of the payer's account to be refunded.

If you made the original payment via an international bank transfer, UK banking regulations oblige Manchester Met to return the funds to the originating bank account overseas. Please be aware that this process can take several weeks from start to finish.

If you made the original payment through Flywire, then the funds will be returned to Flywire in the first instance. Flywire will then arrange to forward the refund onto you via your original method of payment at the same rate of exchange that the payer received when the payment was made.

Approved Met card refunds will be made by BACS and bank details should be supplied. If the original payment was made from a debit/credit card approved refunds will be made directly back to the card from which it was paid. 

Are there any charges for processing a refund?

International student deposit refunds may incur an administration charge of £200 - £350. Please visit the Manchester Met International website for further information.

Flywire deducts a flat fee of £9 for each bank account refund made.
